Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ~ Chapter 3

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books and re-discover them we created this challenge to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book.
We decided to re-read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead first.
Co-hosted by Christina @ Booksane and me!

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead
Paperback, 332 pages
Published August 16th 2007 by Razorbill

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter Three:

  • page 26 - 41
  • First sentence:
Sending us straight to class after our meeting seemed beyond cruel, but that's exactly what Kirova did.

*spoiler alert*

Not a whole lot happened in this chapter. But it's one of my favorites. Rose and Lissa got send to their classes right away. We actually get to see Rose's schedule which is this:

1st Period: Advanced Guardian Combat Techniques
2nd Period: Bodyguard Theory and Personal Protection 3
3rd Period: Weight Training and Conditioning
4th Period: Senior Language Arts (Novices)
—Lunch
5th Period: Animal Behavior and Physiology
6th Period: Precalculus
7th Period: Moroi Culture 4
8th Period: Slavic Art

So, yeah, pretty awesome to see what classes Rose has to take through the day. A reason this chapter is one of my favorites is because Mason and Eddie are introduced for the first time. Everyone who's read these books can't help but love Mason and Eddie, right? Especially Eddie because he's a huge part of the Bloodlines series. I love how Mason and Eddie tried and succeeded to break the ice and not let everything be awkward with Rose being back and just like that she's one of them again. It was also kind of really funny to see how Rose got her ass kicked since she hasn't been training for like two years. Poor Rose. Also a funny thing was how Mason refered to Dimitri as a god. Rose was all like, uh-oh... Ah, if she only knew what was coming, huh?
I didn't remember this until now when I read it but some creature called Psi-hounds got mentioned. I'm not sure if they ever did get mentioned but I think it was too bad they didn't go more into it. Of course I could be wrong and if they come in another book in the series then cool. But I don't think they did. Anyway, they sound really cool and kind of scary.
Soooo eventually Rose makes it through the first have of her day and finally it's time for lunch. But before actually going to lunch she has a talk with Victor Dashkov and he's very interested in Rose and Lissa's bond. Can you say creepy? But of course Rose doesn't know what's eventually going to happen... dum dum duuuuuum!

Quote:

"This is my time, Hathaway. I'm leading today's session."
"Oh yeah?" I retorted. "Huh. Well, I guess this is a good time to think about me naked, then."
"It's always a good time to think about you naked," added someone nearby, breaking the tension further. Eddie Castile. Another friend of mine.
Dimitri shook his head and walked off, muttering something in Russian that didn't sound complimentary.

I've always been curious as to what exactly Dimitri was muttering about. lol.

  3. Great post! I loved the ending though, that just highlighted Rose's protectiveness and how bad-ass she is when it comes to guarding Lissa :) and what a great friend she is.

I'm pretty sure the Psi-hounds incident gets explained later on (with Victor) near the end of the book - without any spoilers here...
