2016 End Of Year Book Survey! ♥

It's time again for the annual end of year survey that Jamie @ The Perpetual Page-Turner hosts to reflect back on the books we've read throughout the year.

Number Of Books You Read: 140
Number of Re-Reads: 😂
Genre You Read The Most From: Contemporary (Adult). I also read a lot of fantasy and historical fiction.

1. Best Book You Read In 2016?

An Exaltation of Larks by Suanne Laqueur. This book was beyond amazing. And funny enough the second best book I've read was also a book by this author, The Man I Love.

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Blood Passage by Heather Demetrios. I was so excited when I got my hands on this book because the first book ended up being a favorite of mine but I ended up being really disappointed by it.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. This book surprised me in a very good way because I ended up loving it so much. It's one of my favorite classics now.

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?

I wouldn't say I push people to read books but I guess I've recommend A Court of Mist and Fury to people and I know at least one person did.

 5. Best series you started in 2016? Best Sequel of 2016? Best Series Ender of 2016?

Best series started ► Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (Duology in this case)
Best sequel ► A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Best series ender ► Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2016?

I discovered quite a few new favorite authors in 2016 but my top favorite has got to be Tracy Ann MillerI'm so glad I got the chance to read her books and she's such a nice person, too!

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

The Man I Love by Suanne Laqueur. This isn't the type of contemporary romance I usually read (but it is now lol). It ended up blowing my mind, it was amazing and emotional and just everything!

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Beautiful Minds All in a Row by Jennifer Harlow. This book was all of these things; action-packed, thrilling and unputdownable. I loved it!

9. Book You Read In 2016 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

I don't actually re-read a lot of books. I haven't even re-read a book this year at all. So I'm not sure I will. At least not one I read in 2016.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2016?

(I haven't exactly read this book yet because my order was delayed but it's been my favorite cover all year long.)

11. Most memorable character of 2016?

Kaz from Six of Crows maybe because he sure took me by surprise by how much I ended up loving him (and the book).

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2016?

Again going with An Exaltation of Larks by Suanne Laqueur. It was so beautifully written!

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2016?

I feel like I'm going with this author's books a lot but... The Man I Love by Suanne Laqueur. It was both thought-provoking and life-changing.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read?

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo. I read this pretty recently and yeah, no idea why I waited until now to read it.

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2016?

One of my favorite hilarious quotes from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare:

“He bumped into a pay phone and said, 'Excuse me, miss,' on our way in," said Julian.
"It's polite to apologize," said Mark with the same small voice.
"Not to inanimate objects.”

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2016?

Shortest ► The Crown & the Arrow by Renee Ahdieh ~ 9 pages
Longest ► Voyager by Diana Gabaldon ~ 1059 pages

17. Book That Shocked You The Most

Probably the end of Feverborn by Karen Marie Moning. I still can't stop thinking about it and I'm so worried for the next and final book.

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)

Mark and Kieran from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. I just love them so so so much. I'm just doubtful they'll actually end up together. I hope Cassandra will be nice to them.

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year

All the Blackthorn siblings from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. I just love this family so much. After just one book they already took a special place in my heart.

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2016 From An Author You’ve Read Previously

So. Many. Books. The first one coming to mind, though, is And I Darken by Kiersten White. It's in my opinion the author's best book yet.

21. Best Book You Read In 2016 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. Recommended by Christina from Booklover's Teaparty. I loved this book so so much!

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2016?

KAZ! From Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Yes, I had to shout his name. LOL

23. Best 2016 debut you read?

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton is the first one coming to mind.

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

Roma Amor by Sherry Christie. I loved the worldbuilding and vivid setting of ancient Rome so much. Highly recommended!

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Without a doubt it was Puck by Kim Askew and Amy Helmes!

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2016?

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover made me cry at the end, like only CoHo can. And The Man I Love by Suanne Laqueur. Sorry, I just gotta mention it again!

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

The Maiden Seer by Tracy Ann Miller, as well as Loveweaver. These books were really amazing!

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?

I don't think I read a book in 2016 that REALLY crushed my soul. Maybe my soul is so black already by previous books that it can't be crushed anymore? LOL

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2016?

Soundless by Richelle Mead. I know a lot of people didn't care much for this book but I did like it a lot and I thought it was really unique.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. I loved the book (RHYS!) but it made me mad because Tamlin was such a douchebag in it.

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2016?

I discovered so many great blogs but Olivia's Catastrophe jumps out! I initially met Olivia last year on Instagram where we bonded over Doctor Who and that's how I discovered her blog. She's awesome so you should all follow her!

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2016?

This is a hard question. I have so many favorite reviews that I wrote in 2016. But maybe my review of A Year of Ravens because I always enjoy writing reviews for each part of these books.

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

My Valentine's Day post where I talked about my favorite romance books.

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?

I participated in ReadIndie, which was pretty fun!

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2016?

That time when Cassandra Clare replied on Twitter to the co-review me and Christina from Booklover's Teaparty did on Lady Midnight

6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

I went through quite a few minor reading slumps so that was pretty challenging. I still read a lot of books but I read about 40 less books than in 2015. This kind of surprised me.

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

My review of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, I think.

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

More love for any post in general would be awesome. I can't really say just one in particular.

9. Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?

FairyLoot! I've wanted to order a box from them since they started and this month I finally got the December box, which was amazeballs!

10.  Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

I completed the 2016 Reading Challenge on Goodreads. I had set a goal of 100 books for myself, which I completed. For 2017 I'll be challenging myself to 117 books.

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2016 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2017?

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I need to read this one so badly!

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2017 (non-debut)?

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas ♥

3. 2017 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

Caraval by Stephanie Garber because I heard nothing but amazing things about this book.

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2017?

Feversong by Karen Marie Moning, which releases January 17th. A part of me is in denial that the Fever series is ending. This has been my favorite series for years so I'm not sure how I'm going to get through this.

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2017?

One of my resolutions of the new year is reading more books that have been sitting on my shelf. Wish me luck!

6. A 2017 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone:

RoseBlood by A.G. Howard. This author doing a Phantom retelling is the best thing ever!

Happy New Year everyone and see you in 2017!
