Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ~ Chapter 9

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books and re-discover them we created this challenge to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book.
We decided to re-read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead first.

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead
Paperback, 332 pages
Published August 16th 2007 by Razorbill

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter Nine:

  • page 110 - 125
  • First sentence:
I snapped into her mind, once again seeing and directly experiencing what went on around her.

*spoiler alert*

This chapter is really one of the best. I love how Rose just knows Lissa is sneaking off to see Christian again and how she hates it. You go and rebel, Lissa! lol. All joking aside. I just love all Lissa and Christian scenes and the one in this chapter was really nice. It showed how they definitely have feelings for each other. You can practically see the sparks flying. They get each other. That's pretty awesome. I think Rose just needs to relax and do whatever Lissa wants. I had almost forgotten how much Rose dislikes Christian. It's funny, really.
And then we have the scene where Rose is sneaking off with Jesse. I love how first Rose is is all sneaky and talks about Mia and "planting the seed" to mess with her. Then when Rose and Jesse start making out, he finds out that Rose used to feed Lissa when they were out in the real world. This will come back to bite her in the ass. Sigh. Anyway... then probably the thing that made me love Dimitri happens. When he just bursts in and grabs Jesse and pretty much scared him to death. It just makes me smile everytime. And it was so hot! Also love the conversation follow that between Rose and Dimitri. Soulmates, yo!

Quote:

He burst in the door like he'd expected to find us, and in that horrible moment, with him raging like a storm, I knew why Mason had called him a god. In the blink of an eye, he crossed the room and jerked Jesse up by his shirt, nearly holding the Moroi off the ground.

  1. I loved this chapter too. I think all 4 of the main characters here grew in their own ways and the 2 couples (R&D; L&C) definitely became closer to each other :)
I really don't like Jesse. He annoys me from the start all over again!
