Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ~ Chapter 6

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books and re-discover them we created this challenge to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book.
We decided to re-read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead first.

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead
Paperback, 332 pages
Published August 16th 2007 by Razorbill

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter Four:

  • page 42 - 58
  • First sentence:
As much as Lissa and Christian's meeting bothered me, it gave me an idea the next day.

*spoiler alert*

In this chapter we learn how religious most Moroi and dhampirs are so the attend church every sunday, which Lissa does. Of course Rose wants to spend as much time as she can with her so she fakes being interested in going to church to be there. Typical Rose! =D It's there where the priest talks about St. Vladimir and Anna, who's shadow-kissed which spikes Rose's interest and she's determined to learn more. The priest also talks about St. Vladimir being so full of spirit. When reading this the first time, it didn't make so much sense as it did now so that's pretty awesome.
We also learn a lot more about the relationships in the vampire world, like how dhampirs can't have kids with other dhampirs and how relationships between two are kind of taboo. Moroi and dhampirs can have kids together, and those come out as dhampirs always. But Moroi and dhampirs aren't expected to get married or anything. It's usually flings. Moroi and Moroi can also have kids together and those come out as Moroi. Did I miss anything? hmm... =D I liked how we learn more about that. It's probably because soon we're going to see Rose and Dimitri "forbidden" relationship starting. Speaking of the Russian eyecandy... he was also in the church but just like Rose didn't take communion. Just putting that out there for no real reason.
And again Mia had to go being annoying, using her water powers to make snow fall on Lissa and Rose. That biotch.
On the last part of the chapter we get more Mason. Always nice. Rose is trying to learn more about Anna and St. Vladimir with him. But I just liked seeing Rose and Mason hang out.

Quote:

She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "I wasn't aware you had any religious needs."
"I found Jesus while I was gone."
"Isn't you mother an atheist?" she asked skeptically.
"And my dad's probably Muslim. But I've moved on to my own path. You shouldn't keep me from it."
She made a noise that sort of sounded like a snicker. "No, Miss Hathaway, I should not. Very well. You may attend services on Sundays."

Oh, Rose :')

So what are your thoughts on this challenge, chapter discussion or Vampire Academy in general?

  1. I really enjoyed seeing the different sides of Rose in this chapter: Her protectiveness of Lissa, Her short temperament with Mia and her fun-flirty-friendly side with Mason. The shadow-kissed & spirits parts were a great part of this chapter for me :) I also enjoyed seeing Rose's dedicated side to guardianship.
