Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead ~ Chapter 12

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books and re-discover them we created this challenge to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book.
We decided to re-read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead first.
Co-hosted by Christina @ Booksane and me!

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead
Paperback, 332 pages
Published August 16th 2007 by Razorbill

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter twelve:

  • page 156 - 175
  • First sentence:
Sleep came reluctantly that night, and I tossed and turned for a long time before finally going under.

*spoiler alert*

Karma's a bitch, ain't it, Rose?
So this chapter shows really well how spirit (although she doesn't know it yet) makes Lissa unstable. After finding the bunny (poor baby...) Lissa freaks out and cuts herself to make it all stop. She doesn't want to kill herself or anything but she just wants to not feel the way she did. I'm not sure if hiding it from Dimitri and everyone else is the smartest thing Rose and Lissa can do but yeah...
This chapter also shows once again what a bitch Mia is, with having them spread rumors that Rose slept with them and let them drink her blood. Rose is obviously very hurt by it but I still can't forigve her for what she told Christian in the previous chapter. And I love love love how Dimitri stepped up and talked Kirova into letting Rose stay with Lissa for a while. So sweet.

Short today but I just haven't got anything else to say about this chapter...

Not waiting around to hear her protests, I stalked off to the other side of the room where Christian was working by himself, as usual. Lissa followed in my wake. Not caring if people saw us, I leaned across the table toward him, putting my face inches from his.
"I'm going to kill you."
His eyes darted to Lissa, the faintest glimmer of longing in in them, and then a scowl spread over his face. "Why? Is it like guardian extra credit?

Oh, Christian... you always make me laugh! :')

So what are your thoughts on this chapter?

  1. This chapter was quite emotional too me. It showed how strong Rose feels about protecting Lissa even when she doesn't understand what's going on. I also felt really bad for Rose and the whole rumor thing because no one deserves that kind of stuff being said about them. I admire Lissa's resolve to protect Lissa even if I don't agree with the way she does it.

Great post once again :) half way there and half way to go!
