To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books and re-discover them we created this challenge to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book.
We decided to re-read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead first.

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead
Paperback, 332 pages
Published August 16th 2007 by Razorbill
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter fourteen:
- page 188 - 196
- First sentence:
I continued spying on Lissa over the next couple of days, feeling mildly guilty each time.
*spoiler alert*
Another pretty short chapter. Basically Rose continues to get inside Lissa's head like it's said in the first sentence and watched her use compulsion to get back into the royal crowd to make people stop talking about Rose. Rose feels anxious about it and I would too because it's obviously getting out of hand, using so much compulsion on so many people.
It's kind of funny how slowly things are starting to click for Rose about St. Vladimir and how he's like Lissa and Sonia. And even funnier when she realizes she needs Christian to get the writings for her.
Also thought it was kinda sweet how Mason stepped in when those two guys were bothering Rose. He's so smitten by her, poor guy. I don't like how she's kind of using him to get that message to Christian though. Mason deserves so much better!

You also see (especially with the quote below) how Rose gets more and more feelings for Dimitri (even though he isn't in this chapter).
Quote:
Why did I get caught up in so many messes with other guys when I had a perfectly sweet one here who wanted me? Why couldn't I just return his feelings?
The answer came to me before I'd even finished asking myself the question. I couldn't be Mason's girlfriend because when I imagined someone holding me and whispering dirty things in my ear, he had a Russion accent.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this chapter :) I am so glad Rose is apologising to Christian, even if it is indirectly for now. It takes a big person to admit they lied and it was a mistake. Mason does deserve better :( *sad sigh*
