Teaser Tuesdays: Perfect Ruin and Artemis Fowl

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading.

Teaser #1
Love should be a staple in our history book. Wasn't it an act of love when the god of the sky chose to keep us? Isn't love what makes living bearable, and unbearable?

-Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano

Teaser #2
How does one describe Artemis Fowl? Various psychiatrists have tried and failed. The main problem is Artemis's own intelligence. He bamboozles every test thrown at him. He has puzzled the greatest medical minds and sent many of them gibbering to their own hospitals.

-Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Two teasers today from different books because I just finished Perfect Ruin and I just had to share a teaser from it. Also started Artemis Fowl and of course I had to share one of that, too. :D

Teaser Tuesdays: The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading.

My Teaser:
She shook Neil's hand. "I'm Rose."
"Neil," he said, with a formal bow of his head. "It's a great honor to meet you. Your heroics with Dimitri Belikov are legendary."
"Um, thanks," she said. It was nice to see one woman finally immune to that accent. That wasn't to say Rose wasn't a sucker for accents. She just preferred hers from the other side of Europe.

An image of Sydney's face appeared in my mind's eye, calm and lovely. I believe in you.
My anxiety faded. I took a deep breath and met the gazes of all those watching me in the room. Who was I to do this?
I was Adrian Ivashkov. And I was about to kick some ass.

-p. 120

Teaser Tuesdays: Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading.

My Teaser:
Then he (Apollo) turned to Seth. "And don't think you and me are okay. It's great you're no longer Ares' little bitch-boy, but you're still a punk-ass.
Aiden snickered.
"And I hope your jaw really hurts," Apollo added.

—p. 123/124

Sentinel (Covenant #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Paperback, 297 pages
Published November 2nd 2013 by Spencer Hill Press
It's a beautiful day for a war.

I wasn't really feeling this book up until Seth showed up and you got to admit, him and Apollo are freaking hilarious together. :')

We’d both gone missing at one point, but Claire had one thing I didn’t. Someone to notice. So why was I the one still here and she the one still gone?

Nineteen year old Megan Smith has spent the past year working in a small town diner in the middle of nowhere. Life is quiet, simple, safe. Then comes the news that her look-a-like has gone missing.

Claire.

Still damaged both physically and mentally, Megan's not looking to be noticed. Wherever she goes from here, it's a road she needs to take alone. But when Nickolas Ellis takes the job as the new nightshift cook, it scares her how easily her defenses crumble down, down, down for him. But there are secrets she can't bear to share with just anyone, unspeakable acts that continue to haunt, and when the similarities of Claire’s abduction couples with the fear of an unwanted visitor in town, the urge to run before it all happens again intensifies, threatening the only happiness Megan's ever found.

Teaser Tuesdays: Daughter of the Sky by Michelle Diener

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading.

My Teaser:
A man could go along, and go along, generally unhappy, getting closer to the edge, and then suddenly, he was there. Right there, able to fell either way, and frankly the dark shadowy side was by far more tempting.

Daughter of the Sky by Michelle Diener
Kindle Edition, 342 pages
Published March 1st 2013
The Victorian Empire has declared war on the Zulus if they don't accede to their outrageous demands. The clock is ticking down to the appointed hour. With no idea why the British are marching three massive columns of men and guns towards them, one Zulu general is prepared to take an impossible risk. But the life he's gambling with isn't his own . . .

The sole survivor of a shipwreck off the Zululand coast, 15 year-old Elizabeth Jones is taken in by the Zulus, the people of the sky. Six years later, her white skin becomes useful to the Zulu army as they try to work out why the Victorian Empire has pointed their war-machine at the Zulu nation. Elizabeth is suddenly Zululand's most important spy.

While infiltrating the British camp, Elizabeth's disguise as a young soldier is uncovered almost immediately by Captain Jack Burdell. However, he believes the tale she spins of searching for a missing brother and shields her from discovery, allowing her to bunk in his tent and giving her a job as his batman. Burdell is war-weary and disillusioned - no longer willing to follow regulations at all costs.

But as Elizabeth and Jack explore their growing attraction to each other, the two armies move towards their inevitable clash. Elizabeth is torn between the guilt of betrayal and her fierce loyalty to her Zulu family, and when Zulu and British meet on the battlefield, both she and Jack find their hearts and their lives caught in the crossfire.

I'm almost done with this book but, wow, it's amazing. One of the best books I've read lately!

Teaser Tuesdays: Charming by Elliott James

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading.

My Teaser:
The supernatural is real. Vampires? Real. Werewolves? Real. Zombies, Ankou, djinn, Boo Hags, banshees, ghouls, spriggans, windigos, vodyanoi, tulpas, and so on and so on, all real. Well, except for Orcs and Hobbits. Tolkien just made those up.

Charming (Pax Arcana #1) by

John Charming isn't your average Prince...

He comes from a line of Charmings — an illustrious family of dragon slayers, witch-finders and killers dating back to before the fall of Rome. Trained by a modern day version of the Knights Templar, monster hunters who have updated their methods from chainmail and crossbows to kevlar and shotguns, he was one of the best. That is — until he became the abomination the Knights were sworn to hunt.

That was a lifetime ago. Now, he tends bar under an assumed name in rural Virginia and leads a peaceful, quiet life. One that shouldn't change just because a vampire and a blonde walked into his bar... Right?

I'm only about 14% in this book but I am really enjoying it. It's funny, has a male point of view and a lot of action. I'm very excited to see how this story will continue!

Teaser Tuesdays: What's a Witch to Do by Jennifer Harlow

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading.

My Teaser:
"I can't. I'm sorry. The team's already on an investigation in Idaho. They just arrived last night. There's a wraith slaughtering people."

"Then just send us one agent. Just not the vampire.," I say with scorn. "You know why."

It's been a week or two, I think, since I posted a teaser. I just hadn't started a new book until now and I didn't want to put teasers of the same book twice...
So this teaser is kind of special. Those of us who have read Jennifer Harlow's F.R.E.A.K.S. series will know who the vampire is Mona doesn't want to be send to her for help. I must admit I giggled when I read it. I do love that vampire quite a bit. ;)
And boy, am I loving this book! <3

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.
