Cadence Williamson has life all figured out. Her London jazz nightclub gives her a place to sing, friends she calls family, and enough money to pay the bills. No man is going to block her chi, especially not the shark trying to buy her out. Who cares if she’s been dreaming of doing the deed with him? Cadence’s perfect plans unravel when she develops fiery superpowers, melts her mic, and has past life visions of an evil force snuffing out the city’s population.

Trystan Tawanti may have his fun, but he’ll never allow another pretty face near his soul again. The serial entrepreneur is determined to purchase Cadence’s nightclub and turn it into a profit machine—no matter the cost to his heart or to his Incan family’s world-saving destiny. He just has to ignore those pesky empathic powers and the feelings signaling his fated mate is near.

Will Cadence and Trystan learn to trust their destiny and each other before ancient evil catches up to them to burn London down?

Cadence's Cauldron was somewhere in between three and four stars for me so my actual rating would actually be 3.5 stars.

The book follows Cadence Williamson who has been having hot and steamy dreams about a man she has never met until he steps foot in her jazz nightclub and introduces himself as Trystan Tawanti who wants to purchase her nightclub. Once Trystan met Cadence his empathic powers got released, the sign that he has met his mate.

I was really a fan of these two characters and I loved their chemistry. I was always looking forward to a scene with the both of them because it always caused some sparks. I kind of loved how Trystan was a little perplexed by Cadence when they first met. Cadence's elemental power was fire and I thought it really suited her temperament. She and Trystan were a great fit together.

As always I really love how the Incan empire is sort of connected to these characters, especially because of the brothers featured in every story. I'm also super excited for the next book, featuring Mei and Roman.

Review: Annie's Defiance by Nicole Pouchet

D.C. lawyer, Annie Birch, believes her life is one logical assessment after another. That changes, however, on the day she accidentally teleports during a high-profile negotiation. Knowing her new power must be a side effect after miraculously getting healed by the Incan Mother Earth goddess doesn’t help matters. Annie has already seen how emerging powers like hers also come with psycho villains that are bent on destroying her, as well as the corporeal world.

The icing on the cupcake of her ridiculous day is two gorgeous men who show up on her doorstep, both vying for her attention. Now, her choices involve much more than her oft-neglected libido. Annie is tasked to play a role in the Incan prophecy, which she prefers to watch from the sidelines. Will she stick to her safe, legal path? Or will she defy all logic to experience the decidedly more fun adventures being thrust her way?

Annie's Defiance is the third book in the Elemental Myths series. It felt great to be back in this world because it features some unique mythology. I also loved how Layla (from Layla's Gale) made an appearance. It's nice to be able to see how other characters are doing.

I really liked how this book was about Annie. We already met Annie in the previous book and aside from going through some pretty terrible things involving the Incan prophecy where her friend Layla is a part of, she's pretty normal... until she finds out she can teleport and plays her own part in the prophecy. Add meeting Stone, who's been drawn to her for ages (literally) and things really start getting interesting.

As much as I liked reading about Annie, it was Stone that I adored. He was sexy, protective about Annie and also pretty fun to read about. I kinda wished there was a little more character developement for him but I still loved him anyway.

Only negative thing was that I felt like the story was a wee bit rushed but other than that I liked it. If you haven't read this series yet and are interested in reading unique paranormal books featuring Incan mythology I'd say give it a shot!

ARC Review: Trapped by a Song by Nicole Pouchet

If Detective Jori Anzoli has to do one more telepathic reading for the Las Vegas Police Department, her para-capabilities may fry out. That doesn’t matter when she’s called in to help find eight men who mysteriously went missing. The case escalates quickly. Clairvoyants in the department are scared to touch it, her brother becomes the ninth missing man, and the Paranormal Investigative Agency (PIA) sends a distractingly handsome agent who hassles her every step of the way.

Agent Del Moore is on a mission to find the PIA’s missing biomedical weapons engineer. A retro-cognizant, Del is used to avoiding human contact unless the job demands it. The less intrusive knowledge he has about others, the better. But a brush with the aloof Detective Jori may change his mind. He can’t ignore her warm essence, especially when she impossibly summons him into her dream.

As mounting clues lead Jori and Del to go deep undercover into a Nevada brothel, an ancient succubus preys on every living soul within, placing Jori and Del on separate hallucinogenic paths of destruction. Will they learn the truth behind the brothel and their mission before succumbing to an ulterior plan neither of them wishes to see?

First of all a huge thank you to Nicole Pouchet for kindle giving me the ARC of Trapped by a Song to read and review it. It was a quick, interesting and steamy story that I enjoyed!

To be fair, I actually feel like this book is better than 3 stars but not quite 4 stars, if you know what I mean. I would give it 3.5 stars although I don't usually work with halves. But anyway...

So Trapped  by a Song is a novella about paras (people born with paranormal abilities) that are basically forced to serve as officers. I've always been a fan of stories like this and I've read a couple like it before and I must say that I really liked this one because it's also a retelling of the fairy tale Jorinda and Jorindel by the Brothers Grimm. I actually read the fairy tale after I finished reading Trapped by a Song just to see what it was like and it's a pretty great retelling of it, in my opnion.

Main characters Jori and Del had great chemistry. I guess I would've liked a bit more character building to be able to connect with them more but then again this is still a novella of only 81 pages so it's kind of hard when there's not much time for it. But other than that they were great. I loved how Jori was a a bit indifferent at times but that eventually she couldn't deny her attraction to Del.

I really liked the twist of the original Brothers Grimm story where Nicole Pouchet changed the old fairy into a succubus. Pretty brilliant if you ask me. I also liked how the succubus used a drug called Song to lure men and to make them keep coming back. I just love a good story with an evil succubus.

All in all, Trapped by a Song was a likable paranormal story that I read very fast. It might not be the best novella I've ever read but it was quick, very hot and I loved the twist on the fairy tale.

Life is finally on track for fledgling stage actress Layla Cohen until she realizes her gorgeous new director, Sebastian, is the star of the erotic dreams which she’s been having for months. She could handle the uncomfortable work situation if not for the further evidence she’s losing her mind: The wind suddenly whooshes at her command; memories of a past life emerge; and she’s sure someone is trying to kill her.

Meanwhile, director Sebastian Tawanti is steering his small D.C. theater company into the big-time with his Incan mythology-based play. The culmination of his life’s work, he won’t let anything stand in the way of his play's success--not his mother's objections, not the inappropriate heat he feels for Layla, and not even the mysterious, empathic symptoms he's experienced since meeting her.

LAYLA’S GALE is Book 1 of the four-book, paranormal romance / urban fantasy ELEMENTAL MYTHS romance series. Similar in subject matter, it is a lighter, more carefree read than Deborah Harness’ All Souls Trilogy. This paranormal romance series is sure to entice readers of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series and Marjorie M. Liu's Dirk and Steele series. ELEMENTAL MYTHS follows four couples as they bond together in steamy romance, supernatural powers, and predestined battle to save modern mankind from the mysterious demise of the vanished Incan Empire.

As Layla and Sebastian struggle with new love and burgeoning power, a sinister force unravels to fulfill an ancient prophecy. Will they learn the truth behind the Incan script in time to save their lives, the love they’re destined to share, and the future of humanity?

When I got a review request for this book and read the description I thought this book sounded great, something right up my alley. I was glad that for once I didn't get a YA review request (though I still love reading those books). I just was feeling in the mood for something that had adult paranormal romance. Like Layla's Gale. And it turned out even better than I had hoped!

I don't know what what was about this book but I jumped right into it and I loved it. I liked the two main characters, Layla and Sebastian a lot and their points of view. I'm glad they each got chapters, especially Sebastian because lately I've been wishing more male characters would get their voice heard

Usually I'm not a fan of the whole destined to be together thing but it really worked for this book. I was really rooting for Layla and Sebastian to end up together.
The writing was really good. It flowed nicely and I loved the romance scenes. Hot stuff!

The story, overall, I also loved. I must say it's very original. I never read anything like it. I love the Inca culture (I'm such a history nerd) and I loved the idea of Sebastian writing a play about the stories his mother told him.

The only little minor point for me was that at the part where both Layla and Sebastian find out who and what they really are, it went a little fast for me but the action made up for the most part so I don't really mind now.

Also, I could totally see this book as a movie. Seriously!

Hot romance, great writing, and action-packed, Layla's Gale by Nicole Pouchet was a fantastic paranormal romance. The story was amazing as were the characters.

Favorite Quote:

His mate, the woman who stood up to a giant monster, was in tears. He loved that about her. She was unapologetically tough and fragile at the same time, an emotional badass.
