It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

I know a lot of people love Angelfall. I've almost seen nothing but four or five stars for it by my Goodreads friends. But unfortunately I just couldn't like it. I have this weird thing with books where angels appear in... I dislike most of them. I don't know why. It's just the way it is.

I had a lot of issues with it and I don't want this to be one of those reviews where I name all of them one after another so I'll just keep it short. Aside from being quite bored by the story, the writing was my main reason for not liking it. A book for me has to have good writing and I just thought Angelfall lacked in that department for me. It was decent writing for sure but it just wasn't enough to satisfy me.

And as I mentioned before, the story was boring. Yes, a lot happened that other might find exciting but I was just struggling to get through the chapters even though the book read quite fast. And also I just didn't like most of the characters. I didn't care about them at all, so yeah, that's pretty negative to me. Also, Penryn's mother was scary as hell.

Now, there were also some good things. I did like the romance between Penryn and Raffe. I suspect because there wasn't a whole lot of romance in it. I just hate books in this kind of genre where romance overshadows everthing. So that was good. I also didn't hate the characters of both Penryn and Raffe. Penryn was a pretty strong characters and Raffe was okay too. For an angel, you know. Also they had some pretty funny conversations. That should count for something.

So, will I read the second book? Doubtful. Although, never say never. Other people might like Angelfall more than I did but I couldn't like it. It just wasn't for me.

  1. It's too bad you didn't enjoy this as much as most have. It's just the way it is, I suppose. I hope your next read will be better. :)

  2. Sorry you didn't like this one. I really want to read this one because it has a lot of hype around it. However, I don't have the best track record with hyped up books so I'm a little nervous to read it.
    Great review :D
