Fast-paced with twists around every corner and with a lot of witty banter, The Operator was a great and worthy sequel to the Drafter.

It's been a year after The Drafter ended where Peri is trying to have a somewhat normal life owning a coffee shop. But of course this doesn't last very long. 

I felt like things turned up a notch in this book. Both Bill and the CIA are after Peri, wanting to use her for her abilities. Meanwhile she's still trying to work through everything she was forced to forget. But the stakes are higher than eever when she is forced to get addicted to a drug called Evocane.

A lot fo characters we already met in the first book made appearances like Jack, Allen, Bill and Silas. But also new characters like Harmony. I loved her and Peri working together.

Overall, this was a thrilling book in the Peri Reed chornicles. I loved very single page.

Authors I Lost Track Of ► Kim Harrison

There are quite a few authors that I've lost track of in the last couple of years so I decided to feature some of these authors. Maybe this'll give me the extra push to get back to their books. ;)
First up is Kim Harrison!

Kim Harrison has been my favorite urban fantasy author since I read Dead Witch Walking back in 2011 (so long ago!) and The Hollows have been a favorite series of mine ever since. I just lost track of the series after the first four books. I also enjoyed the Madison Avery trilogy. Those books were a lot of fun. Lately I've started getting back into Harrison's books with The Peri Reed Chronicles. The Drafter, The Operator and the short story of Waylaid (which also features Rachel from The Hollows) were all really great! But more than anything I would love to continue The Hollows books. I want to know where Rachel's story is going next.

I don't know where to begin. I obviously loved Waylaid. I loved how Kim Harrison took Rachel Morgan from The Hollows and somehow put her in the world of Peri Reed from The Drafter. These two ladies together were an awesome team!

It's been a while since I read about Rachel. I actually never read more than four books in the series but I want to get back to it soon. So I thought it was so awesome to finally read about her again. I actually missed her. And Jenks! Oh my god, I totally missed Jenks. My favorite pixie ever! 

But anyway, I really liked the story and how these two worlds of the paranormal and the futuristic came together. It made for the perfect entertaining read. It was also pretty short so I went through it in no time at all. It only made me want more of both The Hollows and The Drafter world.

It's been three years since I read a Kim Harrison book but now that I have read The Drafter, the first in a new series, I'm reminded again why I like her books so much. This book totally blew my mind. I loved it!

This story revolves around Peri. She is a drafter, she has the ability to alter time. The only drawback is that she forgets whatever it is she changed. When she gets betrayed by the organization she works with and the man she loves her, she is forced to go on the run, leaving her world forever changed.

I've always thought this author writes very interesting female characters. Strong yet they have a vulnerable side to them as well. Peri was no exception. I loved that she could kick some serious butt, even men who are twice her size but there was also her softer side with not knowing what was going on and forgetting important things whenever she drafted.

I was really impressed with how the author build up this world. It was extremely well written, in my opnion. The story takes place in Detroit 2030. It's 15 years into the future but I can totally see some of the futuristic things that were in this book happening eventually. 

Although the story is mainly about Peri, there were a bunch of side fascinating side characters as well. Silas, being one of them. Actually, he also has a POV in the book. I loved reading about him and especially his interaction with Peri. 

The thing with this book is, you don't quite know who the villains are and who the good guys are. Much like Peri in the book, you just can't know for sure. The lines are very blurred but I loved how suspenseful it all was. And I also have to mention that I although this book is 432 pages, I read it really fast. 

Overall, The Drafter was a fantastic book. It was so good that I could hardly stop reading. My expectations were definitely met and even more than that! If you're looking for a fast-paced, futuristic, suspenseful read with a hint of time travel, you definitely need to read this book. Highly recommended!

I grew up reading science fiction and fairytales, which means my fairy garden has Daleks in it. Recently, I've moved back to my home state of Michigan after a ten year stint down in South Carolina, and it feels good to be home--even with the snow and cold.
