Cover Crush: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

Cover Crush is a bookish meme hosted on saturdays by Vyki @ On The Shelf where eye-catching covers get featured.

This week's cover crush

~Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke
Hardcover, 368 pages
Expected publication: August 20th 2013 by Dial
You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town…until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery...who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.

~Why I love this cover:
Aaaahhh! It's just wonderful! I can't even look at it without wondering what is happening at the top of that rock. Love the waves below too. The moon is beautiful like that, slightly hidden. And I love the colors also of course, especially the word "Devil" in red.
Can't wait to get my hands on it!

This week's cover crush:

~The Emperor's Conspiracy by Michelle Diener
Paperback, 336 pages
Published November 27th 2012 by Gallery Books
From nineteenth-century London’s elegant ballrooms to its darkest slums, a spirited young woman and a nobleman investigating for the Crown unmask a plot by Napoleon to bleed England of its gold.

Chance led to Charlotte Raven’s transformation from chimney sweep to wealthy, educated noblewoman, but she still walks a delicate tightrope between two worlds, unable to turn her back on the ruthless crime lord who was once her childhood protector.

When Lord Edward Durnham is tapped to solve the mystery of England’s rapidly disappearing gold, his search leads him to the stews of London, and Charlotte becomes his intriguing guide to the city’s dark, forbidding underworld. But as her involvement brings Charlotte to the attention of men who have no qualms about who they hurt, and as Edward forges a grudging alliance with the dangerous ghosts of Charlotte’s former life, she faces a choice: to continue living in limbo, or to close the door on the past and risk her heart and her happiness on an unpredictable future.
~Why I love this cover:
This is my favorite cover of 2012! I love how it's all about the girl in a fancy dress being in a dark, dirty street. You have to wonder why she's there and how she came there. You have to read the book to find out! ;)

~Why I love this cover:
Oh, where to start? I love simply everything about it. The colors are fantastic. I love how everything is in black/white except for the title that's in that amazing shade of blue. Seriously gorgeous! The feathers are so lovely and very fitting. You can guess instantly it's an angel book. It's not like one of those covers where you see random stuff on that have nothing to do with the story at all. I especially love the big feather that shields the girl's eyes. I mean, ahhh! Am I the only one who really really loves that? I think the swirly thingies, I'm not sure what to call them, are really pretty too but I'm sure without them the cover would've been as amazing as it is now. And then I also love the catchphrase below the title; three hearts, two worlds, one secret. Overal this is definitely one of my most favorite covers of all-time. I would buy it even if I hadn't read the synopsis. Yes, I'm definitely crushing on this cover.

Mary Robinette Kowal stunned readers with her charming first novel Shades of Milk and Honey, a loving tribute to the works of Jane Austen in a world where magic is an everyday occurrence. While there, the deposed emperor escapes his exile in Elba, throwing the continent into turmoil. With no easy way back to England, Jane and Vincent’s concerns turn from enjoying their honeymoon…to escaping it.Left with no outward salvation, Jane must persevere over her trying personal circumstances and use her glamour to rescue her husband from prison . . . and hopefully prevent her newly built marriage from getting stranded on the shoals of another country's war.

But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out?

Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?

~Why I love this cover:
I've always loved this cover. It was actually my official favorite cover of 2011.
First of all the girl (Rhine) is so gorgeous and fits the title perfectly. The dress, the hair, the way she sits... perfection! The bird in the cage that's connected to the ring is nicely done, fitting with the store. I love the look of it all. Such an amazing cover!

With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity...

~Why I love this cover:
Lately it seems like I only pick covers with men on them, but can you blame me? Look at this one!
I've been eagerly anticipating this cover for months. Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite writers and the covers of her books are always amazing, but damn, Vlad looks hot! I love the flames a lot. It fits Vlad perfectly, doesn't it? Burn baby burn! ;)
And the bat on the background is awesome too!

JF also gave us the stepback, so naturally I had to post it also. It looks so beautiful even when the author said she couldn't really see Vlad and Leila in that position but that it was close enough, which is just fine by me. :D
I love the lightning and orangy swirling colors , the trees on the background make everything fit together and of course Vlad and Leila together! Amazing! :]

Does this really need explaining? 4 hot guys, brothers, on the cover. Just rawr! But I do also love the colors and lightning stuff behind them. I also love the font of the title and little sentence at the top. "Feel the rush".
And damn, Chris looks good on the front, doesn't he? :D

Oh and if you haven't read this book? You totally should!  I read it over the summer and it was fabulous!

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

~Why I love this cover:

Isn't it gorgeous? And sexy! I love the branches that seem to grow onto his back. Rawr! Well, aside from the hot, drool-worthy guy I love the overall grey color and the yellow title. Beautiful! I haven't seen an amazing cover like this in a long time where it's just one guy on the cover. Love it!

Every night, Azalea and her eleven sisters may step through the enchanted passage in their room to dance in his silver forest.
But there is a cost.

The Keeper likes to "keep" things.

~Why I love this cover:

I love it because it's so fairy tale-ish. From the dress of the girl to the garden she, I suppose is ine to the castle on the background. I love how the girl is facing away from us, as if she's walking to the castle. It's definitely one of those covers that's telling a story. I also love the swirly font of the title and the swirly flower and leaves thingies all around the cover. So pretty!

~ Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles #1) by Kresley Cole
Hardcover, 384 pages
Published October 2nd 2012 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side…

~ Why I love this cover:

I have loved this cover ever since I laid eyes on it. The whole thing is just gorgeous! I don't know where to start with explaining what I love about it. First of all, the two people on the cover are so beautiful it almost hurts. The girl is gorgeous. I love her hair and beautiful dress. The guy is amazing too. Very sexy in black. And that intense gaze of his has the potential to turn me into goo. I love the way the both of them are standing on the cover.
The background on this cover is very striking. The fire behind them, the darkness, the colors that are mostly brownish but so beautiful.

I own this book, though I have not read it yet, but so I saw the guy, who I assume is Jack, is also pictured on there on a bike! Hot damn!
There's also a sort of mini blurb on;

The characters on Tarot cards are real. The Huntress, the Fool, Death, the Lovers... and eighteen other Major Arcana all exist.
The warriors, femme fatales, magicians, and devils each have uniquely lethal powers.
And they're coming for me.
To survive, I'll have to embrace my own terrifying abilities. But if Jack ever beholds what I truly am, will he abandon me to my fate?

And it’s all Chloe Clever’s fault.

With the heavens crumbling down around her, she must hurry to find a way to set things right. But will she be in time to save the one she loves most in the world from a fate that may be more dangerous than her own?

First of all, I'm so glad I decided to join in this new meme. I used to participate at The Book Worms with Cover Crazy but it was stopped so that was the end for it for me too. But now Vyki at On The Shelf has picked it up with a brand new name (which I also love!) and so I decided to join in also! :D

Why I love this cover:
For my very first Cover Crush post I'm spotlighting Prophecy of the Setting Sunrise, the second book in the Oracle of Dephi Series by Diantha Jones. I love this cover. I think it's beautiful. The girl (Chloe) is just gorgeous. Her hair is beautiful and I love the way the light it set around her. Very special!
