Hey everyone! Welcome to my blog tour stop of The Demon Race by Alexandria Warwick. I've been so excited for this tour because I loved the book and I just really enjoy sharing the love for it. Today I have a discussion about 2019 YA releases where the author and I asked each other questions. Enjoy!
Also, don't forget to enter the international giveaway below.

The discussion:

Alexandria: I guess I will start with the obvious! What was your favorite YA book published in 2018 so far, and what is your most anticipated release for 2019 and why?

Stephanie: My favorite YA book of 2018 so far is The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco. It was an amazing sequel to The Bone Witch and it's ownvoices. My most anticipated release for 2019 is probably The Wicked King by Holly Black. I loved the first book, The Cruel Prince so much. It was so twisty and unique and I want to learn so much more about the world that Holly created in it.

Alexandria: Are there any YA series that you are sad to see end in 2019? What about a series that will debut that you're excited for?

I can't really think of any YA series that are ending in 2019 that I'm reading, which kind of surprises me. I even searched for some on Goodreads... But a series that will debut that I'm very excited about is Slayer by Kiersten White. It's set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I'm a huge fan of.

Alexandria: What 2019 YA debut sounds the most promising to you?

Stephanie: We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faiza. The story is inspired by ancient Arabia and I couldn't be more excited to get my hands on it. I've also been following Hafsah on social media for a while so that makes me even more thrilled. I'm so happy for her!

Alexandria: What is your favorite 2019 YA book cover that has been revealed? Why is it your favorite?

Stephanie: Again I have to go with We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faiza. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and I love blue (I have a thing for blue covers lol) and the Arabian elements on it are beautiful as well.

Alexandria: Do you see a trend for any YA books published in 2019? Pirates? Time-travel? Revolutions?

Hmmm. I'm not sure if there are a lot of one particular trend that I'm noticing in upcoming 2019 books but I'm always up for reading more pirate books, like Daughter of the Pirate King and These Rebel Waves. Gotta love pirates! And I really love time travel a la Doctor Who so I'd love to see something similar to that.

Stephanie: What YA book that you don't think you'll get around to reading in 2018 do you definitely want to read in 2019?

Alexandria: So many!! I had to go look through my Goodreads shelf because it's hard to keep track of them all. I would say To Kill A Kingdom by Alexandra Christo. I've heard really great things about this dark Little Mermaid retelling and while I probably won't get around to it this year, I definitely want to read it next year. The opening line is very intriguing!

Stephanie: What author or authors are you most excited to read in 2019?

Alexandria: Hm. It's hard to say because I like many different authors, but I am very excited to read all of the diverse and #ownvoices fantasy that will be published next year. I love having the opportunity to explore these new and various cultures, places, and people! You mentioned it before but I'm also very excited for We Hunt the Flame!!

Stephanie: What non-debut book are you most anticipating in 2019?

Alexandria: Marie Rutkoski has another YA fantasy series planned. The first is called Fall Like Thieves and I will be first in line to buy it next year. Her Winner's Curse series ripped out my heart and stomped on it. Her prose is magical, and I swear every line feels like a punch to the gut.

Stephanie: What debut book are you most anticipating in 2019?

Alexandria: I'm really looking forward to reading The Light at the Bottom of the World by London Shah. A British Muslim girl must try to save her father by entering a submersible race. Which sounds really awesome! I'm a big fan of any sort of competition in YA (clearly, as that's what my book is about!).

Stephanie: What sequel are you most anticipating in 2019?

Alexandria: Like you, I am SERIOUSLY anticipating The Wicked King. I have a huge crush on Cardan, haha, and I really love the banter and tension between him and Jude. I can't wait for the twists, as I'm sure there will be twists! And also all the ways in which these two try to best each other while navigating political intrigue.

A race across the desert.

An unimaginable prize.

It occurs once every thousand years: the Demon Race. A test of will and strength, it is a race across the Saraj, a fight for the prize of a lifetime. And it is the key to Namali Hafshar’s freedom.

When shy, seventeen-year-old Namali learns of her arranged marriage, she flees home and enters the Demon Race for the chance to change her fate. But to compete, she must cross the Saraj on a daeva, a shadow demon that desires its own reward: to infect her soul with darkness.

Namali soon learns the desert holds more dangers than meets the eye. The only person she can trust is Sameen, a kind competitor seeking his own destiny. As her affection for him grows, however, so too does the darkness in her heart.

In this race of men and demons, only one can win. But the price of winning might be more than Namali is willing to pay.

About the author:
