No one has set foot on Earth in centuries -- until now.

Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth's radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents -- considered expendable by society -- are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life...or it could be a suicide mission.

CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did. WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves -- but will she ever forgive him? Reckless BELLAMY fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, the other half of the only pair of siblings in the universe. And GLASS managed to escape back onto the ship, only to find that life there is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth.

Confronted with a savage land and haunted by secrets from their pasts, the hundred must fight to survive. They were never meant to be heroes, but they may be mankind's last hope.

Okay, I hadn't expected to like The 100 this much. I think I went into it with low expectations because I know a lot of people don't like it but it was actually pretty great. The concept is pretty interesting, with the survivors of the human race being in space and the criminal kids getting send to earth. Yeah, I liked it. And I even read it pretty fast - I started reading on friday and finished on saturday so that's also a plus for this book.

So I've watched the tv show and it's one of my favorite and I can't wait for season two to start but you gotta know the book is totally different from the show. This is a good thing because it makes things less predictable. Also, there are some characters that weren't in the show that are in the book and characters that were in the show that aren't in the book - just to give you a little heads up.

Let me start with the characters. There are four main characters, switching points of views. Not many people might like this but I loved it!

-Clarke: I don't love her as one of the main characters but I definitely like her and I feel for everything she went through. I do think, though, she shouldn't be so hard on Wells all the time. I don't even like Wells that much but sometimes I felt sorry for him. But all in all she's a pretty strong person, willing to do everything she can to help people.

-Wells: So I meantioned before that I don't like the guy. I really don't. He was pretty aggravating through the whole book. I get that wants to do the right thing and try to help Clarke but enough is enough, dude. He keeps screwing up and it's getting him nowhere.

-Bellamy: Finally a favorite character of mine (both in the book AND the show). I love Bellamy, okay? He's cute, knows how to hunt, is charming (and he knows it) and he would do anything to protect his little sister. Everything he went through when he was little is so freaking sad and I can't even imagine how hard it all must've been for him. And yes, I shop Bellarke!

-Glass: The last and final main character. I think from all the story lines hers was my favorite. She was a great character to read about and I just love her and Luke so much. And everything those two went through. My god! I couldn't even fuction at the end of the book with everything that kept going to hell for them. I do hope they make it!

As for the secondary characters. There were a few I hated and a few I loved. But overall I liked they all got portrayed. There might've not been a lot of character or worldbuilding but honestly? I didn't care much because I really liked this book and I loved how the author shocked me with all the twists - The little ones, the big ones and the heartbreaking ones. Oh and so many feels were involved. I can't even start to explain how much I was freaking out when I had reached the ending. Another thing I loved were the little flashbacks we got with every main character. It was nice learning more about their past and where they came from.

All in all, The 100 by Kass Morgan was a great book for me. I actually don't think people give it enough credit. The writing was decent and although there could've been a little more character and worldbuilding, I absolutely enjoyed myself while reading it - And that's the most important thing.

Favorite Quotes:

Octavia was the only person in the world who truly knew him. There was no one else he really cared about ever seeing again. But then he glanced over Clarke, who was leaning over to breathe in the scent of a bright pink flower, the sun catching the gold strands in her hair, and suddenly he wasn't so sure.
That was the thing about secrets-you had to carry them with you forever, no matter what the cost.

About the Author:

Kass Morgan has an unhealthy obsession with books that first manifested in third grade when she brought a copy of Mallory and the Dream Horse to her own birthday party. When she was ten, she moved from Brooklyn to Santa Monica, where kids thought she was strange for wearing so much black. Then she went back to the east coast for college, where kids thought she was strange for wearing so much pink.

Kass studied English and History at Brown University, reading gothic novels in the library where Edgar Allan Poe conducted secret love affairs, auditioning unsuccessfully for a number of plays, and learning important truths about walking on ice in high heels.

After college, Kass crossed the pond to pursue a Master’s degree in 19th century literature at Oxford, which was like attending Hogwarts, but with more costume parties. She returned to the states with a deep appreciation for clotted cream, a suitcase full of cocktail dresses, and a thesis on George Eliot that she has since misplaced.

Kass settled in New York to work in publishing. When she’s not editing novels for young bookworms to sneak into their own birthday parties, you can find her jostling for table space at Brooklyn coffee shops, asking strangers if she can pet their dogs, and e-mailing her middle school crush to thank him for introducing her to science fiction, which turns out to be very fun to write. The 100 is her first book for teens. Kass is currently working the sequel, which she’ll finish as soon as she can find a coffee shop that allows laptops on the weekend.

  3. I'm glad to hear you like The 100 as I bought it when it came out but have been a bit wary about reading it as I really love the TV show and am a bit scared the book won't live up to the show but I take it it does?

I thought I read somewhere that the show was axed after the first season, sooooooo glad to hear I read wrong (I did look it up to make sure though!)

    1. It's VERY different from the book so you can't really compare it. I wished a lot of things that happened in thebook would've happened in the tv show. Also there's no Finn, Lincoln, Monty, Jasper, Raven, etc... but that's okay because there are lots of other great characters in the book.
