Today I'm featuring an author interview I did with Kimber Leigh Wheaton, author of Shadow Fire.

Hi Kimber Leigh and welcome to Bookfever and thank you for letting me interview you!

1. Shadow Fire is your debut novel. How would you describe it in a few sentences?

Shadow Fire is a lighthearted, fun adventure with a touch of whimsy and a sweet romance. My inspiration for the story came from playing a few too many RPG video games—it's quite apparent in the plot.

2. Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?

There are so many, but if I could only choose one, I'd like to meet Leonardo da Vinci. He's such an enigmatic figure with so many conspiracy theories surrounding him. I'd love to pick his brain and see if any are true.

3. Who was your favorite character to create in Shadow Fire?

Well, I'm quite attached to all of them. But the pirate, Taranis, holds a special place in my heart. His dialogue was always so much fun to write. In fact, I liked him so much I decided to feature him in Light Chronicles Books 1.5 and 3.

4. What three books would you recommend people to read?

High, epic fantasy — The Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn

Gritty romantic suspense/mystery — Naked in Death by J.D. Robb

Fun YA paranormal — Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

5. If Shadow Fire would have a theme song(s), what would it be?

Alive by Adelitas Way

6. If you could jump into any book and live in that world, what book would it be?

Ooh, a toughie! There are several that come to mind. I guess it comes down to whether I'd be willing to give up indoor plumbing…

Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings — I think it would be fun to live in a fantasy world filled with magic, majestic creatures, adventure, and epic battles.

7. Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Stolen Moon, Light Chronicles Book 2 is coming this summer. The characters from Shadow Fire have a cameo in Stolen Moon. I'll also be releasing my YA urban fantasy novel, Tortured Souls, this summer. Thanks so much for having me :)

About the Author:

Kimber Leigh Wheaton is a YA/NA author with a soft spot for sweet romance and is a member of Romance Writers of America.

She is married to her soul mate, has a teenage son, and shares her home with three dogs and four cats. No, she doesn’t live on a farm, she just loves animals. Her house is filled with dragons, though she does lament that they are the porcelain, non-flying variety.

Kimber Leigh is addicted to romance, videogames, superheroes, villains, and chocolate—not necessarily in that order. (If she has to choose, she’ll take a chocolate covered superhero!)

Review: Half Moon Investigations by Eoin Colfer

Meet Fletcher Moon. Half-pint schoolboy and fully qualified private investigator. Since graduating online, he's solved all sorts of minor mysteries at home and at school. It was only a matter of time before things got serious.

These are strange days in the town of Lock. Something very special belonging to one April Devereux, has gone missing. Fletcher investigates—and the finger of suspicion is soon pointing firmly in the direction of the shady brothers Herod and Red Sharkey...

I just can't dislike books by Eoin Colfer. I really can't. Although Half Moon Investigations wasn't my favorite book ever by him, I still enjoyed it a lot. I actually enjoyed it a whole lot more than I originally thought I would because this book is more in the mystery genre.

Once again Mr. Colfer managed to create very interesting characters. The main character, Fletcher Moon, of course being the most fascinating. But I also liked Red Sharkey a lot. And I also have to say that Colfer has a knack for creating batshit crazy female characters. Just saying - that April girl? There was seriously something wrong with her. She could give Opal Koboi (from Artemis Fowl) a run for her money. 

But back to the story now. It was a good story and a great mystery. I found myself wanting to solve it along with Fletcher or as Red calls him, Half Moon. And in the end I must admit that I hadn't been able to guess who was really behind it all so that's more bonus points for this book and author. 

Another thing, I feel I must say is that the story read really quickly. I flew through it in no time and it always had my attention. Colfer has a unique way of writing a story and keeping its audience hooked. At least, that's always the case with me.

So if you're looking for an awesome mystery book, look no further - you have got to read Half Moon Investigations. Colfer introduces us to unique characters, unexpected twists and the brilliance of his writing once again. I loved it!

Eoin Colfer (pronounced Owen) was born in

Wexford on the South-East coast of Ireland in 1965, where he and his four brothers were brought up by his father (an elementary school teacher, historian and artist of note) and mother (a drama teacher). He first developed an interest in writing in primary (elementary) school with gripping Viking stories inspired by history he was learning in school at the time!

After leaving school he got his degree from Dublin university and qualified as a primary school teacher, returning to work in Wexford. He married in 1991 and he and his wife spent about 4 years between 1992 and 1996 working in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Italy. His first book, Benny and Omar, was published in 1998, based on his experiences in Tunisia; it has since been translated into many languages. A sequel followed in 1999, followed by some other books (see below). Then in 2001 the first Artemis Fowl book was published and he was able to resign from teaching and concentrate fully on writing.

He says, “I will keep writing until people stop reading or I run out of ideas. Hopefully neither of these will happen anytime soon. He lives in Ireland with his wife and two children.

The Last Guardian (Artemis Fowl #8) by Eoin Colfer

Seemingly nothing in this world daunts the young criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl. In the fairy world, however, there is a small thing that has gotten under his skin on more than one occasion: Opal Koboi. In The Last Guardian, the evil pixie is wreaking havoc yet again. This time his arch rival has somehow reanimated dead fairy warriors who were buried in the grounds of Fowl Manor. Their spirits have possessed Artemis’s little brothers, making his siblings even more annoying than usual. The warriors don’t seem to realize that the battle they were fighting when they died—a battle against Artemis—is long over. Artemis has until sunrise to get the spirits to vacate his brothers and go back into the earth where they belong. Can he count on a certain LEPrecon fairy to join him in what could well be his last stand?

This book killed me. I loved it but it killed me. It's the last Artemis Fowl book and I was just so sad when it ended. But it was really good, as always. I miss these characters so much!

Question of this week:

Who is your favorite female villain?

The first one coming to mind when I think about female villains is...
Opal Koboi from the Artemis Fowl series. She really is Artemis' ultimate enemy and also she's totally crazy.

Another one I have to think about is Queen Levana from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. She scares the crap out of me.
