~synopsis~
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.

My thoughts (spoilers! be warned!)
Oh. My. God. This book! THIS BOOK!

I absolutely loved it! Everything about it was fucking amazing! The story, the characters, the writing, the romance or should I just say ...

And of course there was DAEMON BLACK
"Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys."

*fans herself*

Before the whole Daemon invasion I had no idea who Jennifer L. Armentrout was. She came out of nothing with her awesome sounding and looking books. I finally managed to get myself a copy of Obsidian and now I finally read it. I keep asking myself why I waited so long! It was absolutely brilliant!

Our protagonist is 17 year old Katy Swartz and I am so thrilled to announce that I liked her very much. She's not annoying at all. I hate to say that most female main characters in YA books are whiny, annoying, too naive or they can't see past their love for whatever guy they've fallen for. Katy is definitely not one of those. She's awesome! Why, you ask? Katy is not only great because her personality has a lot of spunk, she's also is a fanatic reader, has a review blog called "Katy's Crazy Obsessionand participates in memes like "Waiting On Wednesday". I think a lot of people can relate to her because of that. Also, she squeals when she gets new books. I'm pretty sure all of us do that, too. Also Katy is so hilariou at times, especially when she talks back to Daemon.  I love Jennifer L. Armentrout for giving us such a cool main character to us.
“Once I got home, though, and saw several packages on my front porch, all the crap from the day disappeared. A few had smiley faces on them. Squealing, I grabbed the boxes. Books were inside-- new release books I'd preordered weeks ago.”

Katy had moved from Florida to a small town in West Virginia because her mother wanted them to start all over. When she goes next door to ask directions to the store, she meets the gorgeous Daemon Black with his out of this world amazing green eyes. Too bad he turned out to be such a jerk to her.
“Thanks,” I muttered and added under my breath, “Douchebag.”
He laughed, deep and throaty. “Now that’s not very ladylike, Kittycat.”
I whipped around. “Don’t ever call me that,” I snapped.
“It’s better than calling someone a douchebag, isn’t it?” He pushed out the door. “This has been a stimulating visit. I’ll cherish it for a long time to come.”
Okay. That was it. “You know, you’re right. How wrong of me to call you a douchebag. Because a douchebag is too nice of a word for you,” I said, smiling sweetly. “You’re a dickhead.”
“A dickhead?” he repeated. “How charming.”
I flipped him off.”

But, damn, did they have the chemistry thing going on! I caught myself hoping they'd finally get it on for real every page when they got into their verbal screwing matches, which was basically all the freaking time. But I did love it! It was so entertaining to read. Even in class they went at it verbally!
“Holy Hawt Chemisty, Batman!”
When Katy found out Daemon was an alien from the planet Lux, things really started turning awesome. She was the only human who knew about them who's last as long as her. Um yay? :')
In the meantime Katy and Dee, Daemon's sister became best friends. I really love their friendship and how Dee really needed someone like Katy in her life and vice versa.
With enemies around every corner who can see the trace Daemon has put on Katy by using his powers to save her. (A lot) Things started speeding up. Until the trace was gone they had to keep Katy safe or they all would be in trouble. The killing kind of trouble.
“Am I glowing?"
"Like a Christmas tree."
"Not just the star?"
The bed moved a little, and I felt his hand brush my arm. "No. You're super bright. It's kind of like looking at the sun.”
In the meantime Daemon practically stayed with Katy 24/7. That didn't mean they were getting along any better.
“You’re such an ass. Has…anyone ever told you that?”
He flashed a genuinely amused smile. “Oh, Kitten, every single day of my blessed life.”
Katy knows well her feelings for Daemon but she doesn't understand it. She doesn't even like him, or so she says. But it doesn't mean she didn't thin Daemon could be deep. She knows there's something lurking beneath all the arrogance and dickheadedness.

With an Arum (Alien enemy who wants to steal Daemon, Dee's and the others powers) who seeks vengeance and powers to steal, Katy comes up with a risky plan that almost ends up in the death of them all. After some strange events Baruck dies and they're all safe. More or less... but not without repercussions...
Eventually all ended well except that Daemon openly wants Katy now but Katy isn't sure he wants her for who she is and not because of the freaky bond they have. *le sigh* how crazy is that?! Katy, Katy, Katy... just jump his bones already! You love him!  Oh well, I guess there's more of that in Onyx, the second book.

Besides Katy and Daemon I also liked a lot of the other characters in Obsidian, like Daemon's sister, Dee. She was so much fun! So bubbly and just a sunshine in house. I wish I could have her as a friend. She seems awesome. Then there were the other aliens too. I liked them too. Okay, maybe liking isn't the word to use but they sure were entertaining especially Ash, who always got jealous when Daemon gave Katy the light of day instead of herself. But, yeah, she's a bitch.
Then there were also Katy's new human friends, Lesa and Carissa. I loved them. They were both hilarious to read about.

I can't express how much I enjoyed reading about aliens. Who knew they could be so damn sexy? I've only read one book about aliens but that was totally different than Obsidian. If you're wondering what all the fuss is about with this book, just read it. You won't be sorry. I wondered the same thing myself and I was just blown away by it. Everything about the book is beyond awesome. I read it in less than three days! I couldn't put it down. It was that good. Most of it is because of Daemon. That boy is fuckhawt! I'm already a sucker for green eyes and well his are just damn gorgeous. The way he calls Katy "Kitten" is so cute but also very sexy. All I can say is, in Katy's word: Dayum.

I'm sure Obsidian is the begining of a whole new world opening up to us all. I, for one, am totally hooked. Get ready to swoon for Daemon Black and fall into this book head first. There will be no turning back!

~Favorite Quotes~
“My palms itched to have a close encounter of the bitch-slap kind with his face.”
“I've always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect." His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. "The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It's just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”
“So the dickhead had a name. Daemon—seemed fitting. And of course his sister would be as attractive as him. Why not? Welcome to West Virginia, the land of lost models.”
“For a moment, I pretended. Not that we weren't two different species, because I didn't see him that way, but that we actually liked each other.
And then he shifted and rolled. I was on my back, and he was still on the move. His face burrowed into the space between my neck and shoulder, nuzzling. Sweet baby Jesus...Warm breath danced over my skin, sending shivers down my body. His arm was heavy against my stomach, his leg between mine, pushing up and up. Scorched air fled my lungs.
Daemon murmured in a language I couldn't understand. Whatever it was, it sounded beautiful and soft. Magical. Unearthly.
I could've woken him up but for some reason I didn't. The thrill of him touching me was far stronger than anything else.
His hand was on the edge of the borrowed shirt, his long fingers on the strip of exposed flesh between the hem on the shirt and the band of the worn pajama bottoms. And his hand inched up under the shirt, across my stomach, where it dipped slightly. My pulse went into cardiac territory. The tips of his fingers brushed my ribs. His body moved, his knee pressed against me.
I gasped.
Daemon stilled. No one moved. The clock on the wall ticked.
And I cringed.”
