Throwback Thursday #2

Throwback Thursday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by me and Christina @Booksane where we feature books that we've read in the past but are still crazy about. It could be a book you read as a child and still remember and love or maybe just a book that you haven't read in a long time and want to show your love for.
Each week we'll be featuring a new random question to answer!

My Throwback pick of the week:

The Summoning (Darkest Powers Trilogy #1) by Kelley Armstrong
Mass Market Paperback, 390 pages
Published July 3rd 2008 by Orbit

All Chloe Saunders wants is a life like any normal teenager – the chance to get through school, make friends, and maybe meet a boy. But when she starts seeing ghosts, she knows that life will never be the same again.

Soon the ghosts are everywhere, demanding her attention. When Chloe finally breaks down, she’s admitted to a group home for disturbed kids. At first Lyle House seems okay, but as she gets to know the other patients – charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a 'thing' for fire – Chloe begins to realise that something strange and sinister binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual ‘problem kid’ behaviour.

And they’re about to discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home, either...

So this book? Pretty damn awesome. The whole trilogy is actually. I'm not sure when exactly I read it but it was before I joined Goodreads. And, yes, that means a lot because before I joined Goodreads I barely had any books to read and I kept rereading them because I never knew any good releases. Anyway... I love how this book connects with Armstrong's Darkness Rising series and also a little bit with her Woman of the Otherworld series. And I just adore Derek. Who wouldn't?!

Quote from The Summoning:
He pivoted, gaze following me as I crossed to the shower and turned on the cold water, so it would drown out our conversation without steaming up the room.
Great," he muttered."Now they're going to think we're showering together. Maybe we can just tell them we were washing off the crawl space dirt and trying to conserve water.”

Question of this week:

Do you have an e-reader?

I have a Kindle, which I love so much. It's really easy to read and I love all the free books from Amazon! But I also still read a lot of print books which ultimately I prefer. Can't beat the smell and feel of a real book, right?

How about you?

  1. I have this book sitting on my shelves, but have never gotten around to reading it. I'll have to remedy that.

I also have a Kindle. I love it. I love being able to "carry" around so many books at once and reading in bed at night in the dark. But, you're right, nothing beats the smell of a brand-new book.

  3. I loved the Darkest Powers Trilogy too! And Derek *siiiiign*
I remember giggling over this part- :D
"Dog," he said, jerking his chin toward the fenced yard. "It was inside earlier."
Expecting to see a Doberman slavering at the fence, I followed his gaze to a little puff of white fur, the kind of dog women stick in their purses. It wasn't even barking, just staring at us, dancing in place.
"Oh, my God! It's a killer Pomeranian." I glanced up at Derek. "It's a tough call, but I think you can take him.”

Sadly I don't have an e-reader but I do have both the Nook and Kindle apps on my laptop. :)
