Feature & Follow #10

Feature & Follow is a weekly meme hosted on friday by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read.

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

A: Generally, I don't mind. Similar concepts you see everywhere. Especially in YA it seems.   I feel that authors are allowed to use the same backgrounds as in other books but there's a limit to it. If they start using the exact same things and just change the characters name then it's a hell no for me. Personally I love retellings. Like recently I read Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson and Splintered by A.G. Howard. Both were amazing. So no objection for retellings. However fanfic is a little different for me. I don't usually read it. Just a few I do read. I don't mind when people write it but it's just not something I like to read.
I do wish more authors would create original worlds. Nothing beats a totally original book, right?

What about you? Leave me links please! :)

  1. I don't really mind as long as each book has a unique voice.

  2. I agree, Stephanie. When I come across a book that has this really original concept or world I get all excited (:

Hope you have a great day,

  3. I love retellings. I like seeing how people can change old stories and make them new again.

Repuglished fanfiction I'm very very not fond of.
